Unavoidable on the shelf, and always a crowd-pleaser. Veuve Clicquot’s highest selling Champagne is their Non Vintage Yellow Label. I’d argue the colour is more of an orange than a yellow, but it doesn’t matter. This wine is expertly blended each year to give a seamless and enjoyable taste to all wine drinkers. Also part of the LVMH group behemoth, meaning it is difficult to find a wine or liquor store that doesn’t stock this wine on their shelves.

Acidity

While there’s an unmistakable green Pinot tang, it’s not overly dominating and careful blending means it’s not overly dominant

I’m always amazed at how much flavour they can pack into this very reasonably priced bottle. There’s something for everyone but it’s not a huge flavour bomb.

Very clean on the finish, but again, this is an NV so don’t expect the flavour to hang around for more than a couple of minutes

A 9g/L dosage places this on the dry side of Brut’s averages, but this doesn’t taste as dry as Moet Chandon’s NV

Veuve is famous for it’s use of huge oak barrels aka Foundres used during fermentation to impart a subtle oak influence that is moreish and barely perceptual to the average drinker

Look for mostly dried young apricots in terms of fruit up front mixed with some honey and yeasty characteristics further along the taste profile which don’t dominate

Veuve Cliquot are the second largest house in Champagne (by volume) behind Moet Chandon. Both form the two pillars of LVMH’s wine unit. You’ll now realise why it’s rare not to see one of their distinctive orange labelled NV’s sitting next to a Moet in nearly every champagne section of any wine retailer in the world. While their production is huge (just under 20 million bottles) the consistency of their wines is remarkable.

VEUVE CLICQUOT YELLOW LABEL NV Summary

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV is a sparkling wine produced by the prestigious Champagne house Veuve Clicquot, which is owned by the luxury goods company LVMH. The wine is made from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes grown in the Champagne region of France, which is known for its chalky soil and cool climate. These conditions contribute to the production of high-quality grapes that are essential for making top-notch Champagne.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV has an alcohol content of 12% and is sealed with a natural cork. The wine undergoes a traditional method of production, which involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle to create the bubbles that are characteristic of Champagne. After the fermentation process is complete, the wine undergoes a process called disgorgement, which involves removing the expended yeast and sediment from the bottle. Following disgorgement, a sweet liquid called dosage is added to the Champagne to balance the final flavor of the wine before it is consumed.

In terms of fermentation, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV is made with a mix of stainless steel and smaller quantities of oak foundres. The juice is fermented in oak foundres, which imparts a distinct flavor and character to the wine. The use of oak foundres adds depth and complexity to the wine, while the stainless steel fermentation preserves the wine’s freshness and fruitiness.

As for dosage, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV has a dosage of 9g/L, which is a medium level of sweetness. The wine is well-balanced and has a complex flavor profile that combines fruitiness, freshness, and a hint of oak. It is a versatile wine that pairs well with a wide range of foods and is suitable for various occasions. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a high-quality sparkling wine to enjoy with friends, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV is an excellent choice.
